Jessica Bradley Art + Projects is pleased to announce Daniel Barrow’s solo exhibition, “Good Gets Better”, opening on November 20, 2010. The opening reception will be held on Saturday, November 20 from 3 to 6 pm, with the artist in attendance. The exhibition runs through to December 23.

Rencontre avec artistes et performance

Une rencontre avec les artistes Brendan Lee Satish Tang, Brendan Fernandes, Patrick Bernatchez ainsi que Emily Vey Duke et Cooper Battersby aura lieu le mercredi 17 novembre 2010 à 17 h, animée par Sarah Fillmore, commissaire de l’exposition. La rencontre se déroulera dans les salles mêmes de l’exposition et se feront en anglais sauf celle de Bernatchez qui sera en français. Suivra à 19 h 30 une performance d’environ une heure de l’artiste Daniel Barrow dans la salle BWR. L’entrée à ces deux activités est gratuite.

I will be exhibiting 2 projection installations at the Musée d’art contemporain in the PRIX ARTISTIQUE SOBEY 2010 exhibition. The opening is happening on October 8th. Details here. I will be performing later the same night at the DARE-DARE fundraiser. I will also be performing EVERY TIME I SEE YOUR PICTURE I CRY at the Musée d’art contemporain on Wednesday, November 17th – also in conjunction with the SOBEY exhibition.

Synopsis:

Daniel Barrow’s Winnipeg Babysitter has been alternately described as a curatorial, performance, and a documentary project, and now finally Winnipeg’s public access history has been archived on a DVD, featuring early performances by Guy Maddin, Marcel Dzama, Neil Farber, The Cosmopolitans, Magic Mike, Natalie and Ronnie Pollock, and many more.

In the late 70s and throughout the 80s, Winnipeg experienced a golden age of public access television. Anyone with a creative dream, concept or DIY politic would be endowed with airtime and professional production services. Winnipeg Babysitter traces unique vignettes from a brief synapse in broadcasting history when Winnipeg cable companies were mandated to provide public access as a condition of their broadcasting license. Because the local public access archives were destroyed in the mid-90s, programs could only be found in the VHS collections of the original producers. In cases when these producers did not save their own work, curator Daniel Barrow had to rely on television collectors, fans and enthusiasts. In this regard, Winnipeg Babysitter is an archival project that restores a previously lost history.

I recently posted my first photobooth gallery (to the immediate left). I play on photobooth a lot and have also started making photobooth videos.
